Competition results

Before I tell you the results of the competition,I will tell you that I have a winning record that everyone is familiar with. It's kind of a joke. Oh,Amber will win again(everyone says), I always get second place; which to me always feels like I lost anyways.
In this competition I did not win, but I did in a way. I learned something very valuable: We as artist cannot judge our own work as to which is good or which is bad. It's like choosing which of your children is better looking. Very difficult. That Magic doesn't always happen, but it's good when it does. And to recognize it when it does is even better.

Congratulations Amber !!! :) Second place is better than no recognition at all, don't you think ? They had to pick someone first, that's just the way it is, sometimes it's very hard for the judges to determine as there are so many wonderful artists in this big wide world ! :) I'm really sad I couldn't be a part this year, as I so wanted to be ! Anyway, great news ! Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving !

no i wish ,I must have worded my post wrong i did not win any place.though this morning I have thought a lot about it and it is good because i can learn and maybe become better for it
I learned that I need to simplify my work
Be more confident
I got up and started painting so this is a good sign :)

Art is SO subjective. What one person thinks is "good" another thinks is awful. I try not to ever say I think a piece of art is good-how can I make that pronouncement? I prefer to say that I like a piece or that it means something to me, knowing that others may completely disagree.

Anyway, sorry you didn't win but welcome to the real world where most of us are losers at some point or another!:-)

I totaly agree Tracy

Good point. I have to put anything I do to a third party because I just lose perspective.

As for choosing the better looking of ones children..... It is simple. It's the one you hit with the frypan less! Thankfully for me my brother was the panning child!

Ps. I haven't had a lot of sleep.

It is always disappointing not to win. No matter what spin one puts on it it feels like a rejection. But in the cold light of day we all start appreciating the successes we have even more. Most of all we have to love our own work no matter what the outside world says.

very insightful thank you
I heard said a quote by Blakeney" You can't suit everyone ,so suit yourself"

Hi Amber,

You may not have won any prestigious titles this year, but you're still a big winner in my eyes! You still manage to have time for painting your passion and time to be inspired as well. All the while looking after your extra large family. How well rounded is that ?? Go girl !!

Your amie, Marie

Oh I'm sorry Amber, I missed the part where you said you didn't win. I assumed you would I guess. That's o'kay too...we win some and lose some, such is life ! It's not the end of the world.I really don't think you need to change anything, it really is just who is judging and they pick what they like best. There are so many artists in these competitions so to win any place is a good thing and sometimes if we don't, it doesn't really mean anything, or that your work is not already amazing, which it is by the way ! :) Thanks for clearing that up with me.

I have never won anything in any show I have entered. Half the time my pieces are rejected. Jurors are very subjective. What does happen is that when I get rejected from a show I usually end up selling the painting.

Thats the best thing. I have been wondering whether selling is important. I always associated this with money, but in reality it has not much to do with money. It has more to do with public appreciation and acceptance
